Steelhead fishing in the Salmon area is over until fall. Check back with us in October. Success in most of March was good some days, spotty on others. The cool weather of March kept the river mostly clear, and delayed the upstream travel of fish. Fishing improved greatly toward the end of March and continued good for the first 10 days of April, at least a week longer than we usually expect. Fish now have moved on up river, into the Challis-Stanley area.
Snowpack in the Salmon drainage is a little over average, so we expect fairly high water in June. Dry-fly trout fishing on the Middle Fork will be difficult in June, but by early July fishing will improve, and continue throughout the summer. In September we have space on Lower Salmon trips for small-mouth bass fishing, and in early October we have the steelhead/chukar cast-and-blast trips on the Lower Salmon (see description in the Fishing section).
