John is in the Army. He has served in Afghanistan, Baghdad and Korea. He has strong interest in hunting, fishing, horse activities including calf-roping, snowmobiling, motorcyles, and climbing. Though he doesn't have time for many rafting trips, John is a skilled boatman and a very good fisherman. We are very happy to have him on the river when he is able to join us. It always feels like "home" when he's back.

Your Vacation Your Way!
“…So-this-is-a-River!”
“The River,” corrected the Rat.
“And you really live by the river?
What a jolly life!”
“It’s my world, and I don’t want any other…Lord!
The times we’ve had together!”
The Wind in the Willows
Whitewater rafting in Idaho began as recreation and a summer job during college, but became the center of our lives, a way of life more than a living. After several seasons as Salmon River guides leading whitewater rafting trips on various western rivers, the Middle Fork of the Salmon, Lower & Main Salmon was our choice to begin outfitting our own Idaho river trips in 1977.
Bill began floating in the late 60's on the Green, Colorado, Salmon, and other rivers, working for other outfitters. A winter-range thesis on antelope led to off-season employment for several winters as a wildlife biologist in the Salmon area, working primarily with big game distribution, while continuing to float during the summer. Now preparing for the coming river season occupies the winter. Now preparing for the coming river season occupies the winter. Bill has been active in management issues in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area, served six years on the board of directors of the Idaho Outfitters and Guides Association, and 12 years on the Outfitters and Guides Licensing Board for the State of Idaho.
Peg provides a woman’s perspective to river rafting when she sometimes runs a boat during July and August. Now retired, she taught high school biology in Salmon Idaho for 35 years. Personal interests include astronomy, flower gardening and travel.
Our kids started going on Salmon River rafting trips when they were four years old and on the Midde Fork of the Salmon when they were seven and soon joined their parents love of this great Idaho wilderness and the Salmon River.
The Lewis and Clark trail and Tower creek cross our property, which borders public land. We live on 40 acres a dozen miles from the historic town of Salmon, Idaho just under the Continental Divide. Elk, deer and antelope roam the ridges above our house. We have seen mountain lions, bears, and wolvon the property. We keep a few horses to access this back-yard back-country.
All the elements of western history, from prehistoric Indians, Lewis and Clark, fur trappers, prospectors and miners, cattlemen and sheepmen, to current wilderness, water and endangered species controversy, have intermingled in the Salmon River country. From the depths of Hell’s Canyon to the peaks of the Continental Divide, sagebrush to sub alpine fir, its diversity has a fascination that holds us on the “River of No Return.”

Stephanie has been running a boat since 1996. She intends to stay in the family business with husband, Eric Ellis. Stephanie’s love of the outdoors and the Salmon River led her to earn a BA in western American history. Personal interests include skiing, cooking, and exploring Idaho’s wilderness with Eric.
Eric works for the Forest Service in fire management and is a former smoke jumper. A serious outdoorsman, his interests include fishing, hiking, and spending his free time on the Salmon river.
