Aggipah River Trips provides multi-day wilderness whitewater trips in central Idaho. Rafting trips include the Middle Fork, Main, and Lower Salmon River in Idaho. Fly fishing trips primarily are on the Middle Fork, for cut-throat trout. The Middle Fork also offers some of the best of Idaho rafting, particularly in the higher river levels of June and July. After the river levels begin to subside in July and August, fishing improves. Using McKenzie River drift boats offers some of the best of Idaho fly fishing. In September, traffic on the river is less, and many trips focus on fishing.
The Main Salmon provides more moderate whitewater. With campsites on sandy beaches, the Main is an excellent trip for families with grade-school-age kids. Fishing is incidental on these trips. We begin trips there in late June and continue through August. A mid-summer trip, after the water warms enough for swimming, is a good time for kids and sandbars.
Idaho rafting in September
We usually do not do trips on the Lower Salmon until September. That section is lower elevation, with a more arid environment than farther upstream. On that section of river, mid-summer trips can be pretty hot, but by September temperatures have moderated, providing the most pleasant time. During that period, after schools have opened, there are few people on the river, providing some of the most solitude of Idaho rafting. Fishing in September is primarily for small mouth bass. Spinners and lures are usually used, but fly rods can be productive, providing a unique opportunity among the choices of Idaho fly fishing.
Aggipah also offers day trips for steelhead fishing in October, November, and March, near the town of Salmon, fishing from drift boats. A variety of methods can be used, with fly fishing most productive in late October.
